Kiwanis Club of Walla Walla Sock Drive rakes in 1,150 pairs donated socks

Community members deposited 1,438 pairs of socks in collection bins at Grocery Outlet, Bowlaway Lanes and the YMCA through Nov. 17. Socks also came from such community partners as the VA Retirees Group, Kiwanis members, friends and family, Gerbino said. He picked up 112 pairs of socks from folks with the Walla Walla County Rural Library District, who expect to help again in 2026. Kiwanis Club of Walla Walla’s annual sock drive underway through Nov. 17

Thus Kiwanis Club of Walla Walla members are hosting their sixth annual community sock drive for those in need through Nov. 17, according to club President Barb Casey. Donors may purchase socks for adults and children and drop them off at sponsor locations including Bowlaway Lanes, 411 Ash St.; YMCA, 340 S. Park St.; and Grocery Outlet, 910 S. Ninth Ave. Socks may also be donated by contacting Sock Project Chair Jay Gerbino at 509-529-6719 and leaving a message. Clean socks protect feet from moisture, which otherwise can lead to fungal infections and other problems; provide a barrier against blisters and help prevent foot injuries, which can make it difficult to walk to appointments or job opportunities.
